Here is a quote from Moses Maimonides’ Guide for the Perplexed (M. Friedlaender trans., 1923, p. 263) that is particularly appropriate for the holiday season:
Wine may be treated as food, if taken as such, but to form parties for the purpose of drinking wine together must be considered more disgraceful than the unrestrained conduct of persons who in daylight meet in the same house undressed and naked.
Of course, Maimonides takes gathering naked during the day to be a pretty bad thing to do, but if your ethics allows for such things, then maybe a trip to the pub with your friends isn’t so bad.

True, my point was that if you think hanging around naked is just fine, then drinking might not be so bad, because worse than just fine might not be that bad.
